Ce livre succéda à l’étude "Lorraine belge en Amérique", publiée en 1992 et aujourd’hui épuisée. Cette étude s’intéresse plus particulièrement à l’odyssée des émigrants partis de l’entité communale actuelle de Messancy dont les familles figurent dans l’annexe biographique.

À la suite d’une collaboration fructueuse établie entre plusieurs descendants d’immigrés et l’auteur, il fut possible de préciser l’histoire des colonies créées aux Etats-unis par les lorrains belges parlant le Francique Mosellan ; par exemple, Sheldon N.Y, les comtés de Stark et de Seneca en Ohio, et enfin, Belgium au Wisconsin.

Notons que de 1893 à 1997, d’autres colonies plus modestes furent découvertes ; par exemple, New Belgium dans le comté de Brown et le comté de Darke en Ohio, créés par les Lorrains belges francophones.

En outre, ces colonies attisèrent l’attraction vers l’Amérique : le mouvement migratoire dont le noyau initial était parti de Lorraine, gagna la Gaume, à savoir les villages de Lahaye et de Vance.

Le livre contient en annexes des notices biographiques concernant la ville d’Arlon et ses environs, y compris Sampont et Fouches, anciens quartiers de Hachy.

Brussels is a community in Huron County, Ontario, Canada (coordinates : 43.742577° N 81.249948° W). It was originally called Ainleyville. The name was changed in the 1870s when a branch line of the Grand Trunk Railway from Guelph came through the town.
