Potential Estate - after ‘Scanlan’s Monthly’, 1971
During the course of its presentation in KMSKA from April till September, ‘Passing-Through’ a pavilion-like structure of the American artist Joe Scanlan, will be operated by Potential Estate as a site / context from which the collective will develop CABINET JURINO, a pre-museal story, or is it a game, in which a snake takes center stage. Jurino is the name of a Hopi priest who gave Aby Warburg (the founder of iconography, Hamburg, 1866-1929) a cosmological drawing with a snake at its center. Come and assist to the inauguration of Potential Estate’s reanimation of the serpent : Red on Yellow Kills a Fellow, is a unique floor piece representing the coral snake from Arizona.
Looking through MuHKA’s collection, Potential Estate came across one artist whose contribution to Cabinet Jurino became invaluable : Jimmie Durham.

" My brain is frozen. I have to break free from this culture of mechanical reproduction and the thick incrustration who die on the surface "

Potential Estate is a temporary alliance that operates along models of self-organization and participation.
This practice is highlighted in a number of Potential Estate activities : cabinets, public events and the present website.
A future ‘residency’ was the key issue around which Potential Estate was initially conceived. After an exploratory mission, Belgium, a small suburban entity in Wisconsin, U.S. – founded by their Belgian and Luxemburg ancestors – had been identified as a possible ‘residential’ site. Rather than setting a target to be realized, it became a critical focus for Potential Estate activities.
Potential Estate announces the distribution of The Crying of Potential Estate (Blank Version), a film of murder, money and multiplicity.

If we pause for a moment on the meaning of "states" as the "conditions in which we find ourselves", then it seems we reference the moment of writing itself or perhaps even a certain condition of being upset, out of sorts : what kind of state are we in when we start to think about the state ?
